Caiano has served at WNYT as a meteorologist. In February 2023, she announced her departure from the station, and on Thursday date 23 of that month was his last day at WNYT News. In his departure, he stated that he will not move to another TV station – leaving WNYT marked the end of his journalism career. He has 35 years in broadcast media. However, he did not mention what he went to do after the resignation.
In 1989, Caiano came to the Capital Area to research meteorology at college. He started working at WNYT after graduation and has since adopted Capital City as his home. For almost 25 years, Caiano has been with the station, and for the past 17 years, with the Capital Region’s No. 1-morning show. He loves sports and he now spends much of his time coaching his two daughters, though you might have run into him at a nearby ice rink or softball field.
His first job was back when he was 11 years old as a “paperboy.” On his block, he delivered 60 newspapers to customers and made around $50 per week. Nice enough at the end of his path, to buy baseball cards and play Pac-Man at the stationery shop. He is the Tanglewood Music Center’s official meteorologist in Lenox, Mass.
To keep them aware of any approaching extreme weather, he works closely with the director of Tanglewood facilities to keep large crowds safe at the outdoor venue. When he rubbed the unique Delaware River Rubbing Mud on the baseballs used during a Yankee match in May of 1996, he was a part of baseball history. When coming to her education, he is a proud graduate of Albany’s Atmospheric Science Department University.
A treat in and of itself for this big Yankee fan, but it also turned out to be a no-hitter game pitched by Dwight Gooden. He was proud to provide weather forecasts on a regular basis for WAMC Public Radio. Ray Falconer, the first member of the Atmospheric Science Research Center in Albany, originated the study decades ago.
Many of the specifics in his report began with Ray and were carried on by Mike Landin over the years and passed on to him. His first job in the Capital Region was as a waiter serving margaritas and burritos at Garcia’s Mexican Restaurant. On the connection between cloud-to-ground lightning strikes and violent tornadoes, he did research at UAlbany. For this in his junior year, he received the Presidential and Honours Convocation Awards.
