Robert Hadlock Biography

Robert Hadlock is an American anchor/reporter known for having worked for KXAN News in Austin, Texas. He served as an anchor of the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts. He departed from KXAN on retirement after 32 years there.

Robert Hadlock Career

Hadlock has recently served at KXAN News as a weekday news anchor of the 5, 6, and 10 p.m. newscasts. He was the longest-serving news anchor in KXAN and he worked at the station from 1990 to 2022. KXAN News viewers used to catch Robert reporting on many breaking news events for years, many connected with significant severe weather outbreaks.

In 1997, Hadlock reported on the night when one of the most memorable and tragic tornadoes hit the Williamson County town of Jarrell from southeast Louisiana and the next day he took KXAN viewers on a tour of the devastation in New Orleans aboard the station’s helicopter.

In 1999  Hadlock covered the late Pope John Paul II on three pilgrimages for KXAN; Toronto in 2002, St. Louis in 1999,  Cuba in 1998, and  St. Louis in 1999. He was also one of the few American journalists and the only one from Austin permitted by the Cuban government to report live via satellite in Havana. His reports on the Cuban people attained KXAN the prestigious “Texas Headliners Award” for Best Hard News coverage.

Hadlock filed a report from New York City in 2001  after the September 11th terrorist attacks. In Nacogdoches when the Space Shuttle Columbia fell apart over Texas in 2003, he was one of the first Austin reporters on the scene., and in 2005 he reported live from the Johnson Space Center on the coming back to flight for the shuttle program.

During the Branch Davidian standoff tragic end in 1993 outside Waco,  Hadlock was on standby. Hadlock has a considerable political reporting resume as he has covered two presidential inaugurals and five national conventions.

He was one of the few reporters covering the opening of Austin’s new airport in May 1999 to be invited on board during the first ceremonial commercial flight to Austin-Bergstrom International from the now-closed Mueller airport. Formerly Hadlock worked as a television news anchor and reporter at KSLA Shreveport, LA, KPLC Lake Charles, LA KCRA Sacramento, and KVUE in Austin. 

He has emceed numerous charitable functions for organizations such as CASA of Travis County, Easter Seals-Central Texas, Catholic Charities, Hospice Austin, and the Greater Austin Chamber of Commerce. When coming to his education, He is a graduate of UT Austin as well as a Life Member of the Ex-Student’s Association. He has served on the boards of several community groups and organizations throughout his years at KXAN.
