During her time at HNN, she discovered a health risk at a popular restaurant and won her first professional journalism award: “Best News Spot” thanks to an exclusive investigative report. Working in such a small market taught her to be a jack of all trades: writing, editing, producing, reporting, and presenting the news on time.

It was hard work but also valuable experience that she needed to become a better journalist. After two years in Guam, she returned home to work at KGMB 9 News and moved to KHNL and K-FIVE in 2001. Her reporting from Hawaii earned her three consecutive awards in the categories of Best General Reporting, Best Series Reporting, and Best News Reporting. In 2008, her reporting won the prestigious Emmy Award for “Overall News Excellence,” and in 2010, Hawaii News Now received four coveted Emmy Awards. Radio Television Digital News Association (RTDNA) Edward R. Murrow Award.

In 2012, Hawaii News Now won another award, Edward R. Murrow for “Best 5:00 p.m. Newscast.”She considers herself fortunate to have covered many important stories over the years. This includes the October 2006 earthquake, President Barack Obama’s arrival in Hawaii, and the February 27 tsunami. Hawaii is her home and she loves being there, whether it’s meeting MMA champion BJ Penn, cheering on the UH Vila football team, or taking part in a grueling triathlon.
