Moreover, he covered the 2016 Iowa caucuses, both 2016 political conventions, and a key battleground state in Wisconsin that influenced the outcome of the presidential election that year.
Additionally, he was also a tenacious reporter investigating Milwaukee City Hall, unearthing various details of a health department scandal involving lead abatement in homes. Theo’s second visit to Wisconsin was to Milwaukee. Also, he worked for WISC-TV in Madison.
During his time there, he covered Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker’s historic recall election in 2012, as well as Ryan’s vice presidential campaign that year. While reporting U.S. Senator Mitch McConnell’s ascension to majority leader, he worked as a political reporter for WAVE-TV in Louisville, Kentucky, giving him another insight into national politics.
In Louisville, he probed municipal government corruption, which resulted in numerous changes, and he set up a one-man state Capitol bureau during legislative sessions. While reporting for KMOX-AM in St. Louis and KOMU-TV in Columbia/Jefferson City. Further, he began his career covering government and politics at the Missouri State Capitol.
During his time there, he first learned about the legislative process. On a side note, his work earned him two Emmys. The first one, he attained in 2017 for an investigation that revealed notorious Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke was rarely on the job. In 2016, he earned the second Emmy for breaking news coverage of a huge fire.
In 2013, he received a regional Edward R. Murrow award for a story about the issue of panhandlers. Theo is a lifetime Michigan State Spartans fan who hails from Saginaw, Michigan. In his spare time, he may be found on the golf course — or, in the winter, daydreaming about golf.
