Tim grew up in Ellisburg, New York, on the eastern coast of Lake Ontario, as part of a family of 13. Many of his family still live in the area. In the Catskills, he also resided and went to school in Walton, New York. Tim worked for radio stations and newspapers in Buffalo and Jamestown, New York after graduation. Following this, he traveled to South Carolina.

Further, he became a weeknight news anchor at the age of 22 on WCSC-TV in Charleston, South Carolina’s long-dominant news station. Tim went on to work as a weekend anchor at KPRC-TV in Houston.
