After graduating college, he worked as a meteorologist and weather producer at CBS News and WCBS in New York City.
Klaassen began his on-air career in Lansing, Michigan. During his career, he has broadcasted everything including snowstorms, floods, tornadoes, droughts, and hurricanes. He received the CBM (certified broadcast meteorologist) seal from the American Meteorological Society in 2012.
