Before joining News 12 New Jersey, he was working for TV34 News in Monmouth County, New Jersey. He spent 6 years there working as a news reporter. During his 6 years with TV34 News, he covered everything from political campaigns to the New Jersey House of Representatives to several major hurricanes to organized crime investigations.
Fitzgerald started his career in the year 1985, at an NPR radio affiliate in Middletown Township, New Jersey, WBJB-FM. There, his roles were radio host and newscaster. He has been passionate about TV broadcasting since he was in grade 2 when they went on a school trip to a local radio station. The DJ of the station told them to call out the name of whatever record he was going to play after he opened up the microphone in the studio.
