Trent Butler Career

Trent co-anchored the evening newscasts for WIAT-TV in Birmingham before joining the WAFF 48 News team in June 2015. Greenville, South Carolina; Augusta, Georgia; and Fort Myers, Florida have all been lovely stops on his tour of the South.

Trent covered a number of hurricanes over his 11 years in Florida, including two that directly affected Southwest Florida in 2004 and 2005. He covered the Republican National Convention in Philadelphia as well as the World Series in Cleveland in real-time. Trent was named “Best News Anchor” by the readers of the Fort Myers “News-Press.”

Trent’s fondest Augusta memories include, of course, covering the Masters. He also covered the Democratic Presidential Debates from South Carolina State University in real-time.

During his visit to Greenville, South Carolina, he got increasingly interested in politics. Trent profiled all of the contenders for governor of South Carolina and covered the Republican Presidential debates in Greenville live. Trent was a co-anchor on a WHNS-TV newscast that was named the finest newscast by the Associated Press.

Trent was part of the WIAT-TV news team that won an Alabama Broadcasters Association award in November 2014 for the station’s election coverage. Reporting live from a tragic workplace shooting at UPS in Birmingham was one of his most difficult tasks.
