Roney would exercise doing weather in his bedroom for his friends and family and draw maps of the United States. He got his first on-air job not far from home working at KIMT-TV in Mason City, Lowa.

In 2011, he became the weekend meteorologist, in 2013  a morning meteorologist, and in 2015 became the chief meteorologist. Later, in November 2018 became the Chief Meteorologist at KDLT and in January 2020 became the first First Alert Meteorologist at Dakota News Now. The Sioux Falls tornadoes in September 2019 and the winter storm that dumped 18 inches of snow on Mason City are some of his famous weather events. He has been in all four seasons and is always on his toes when it comes to weather-predicting in the Midwest.

He enjoys spending his time with friends and family, watching sports, playing video games, and going to movies during his free time. Roney is an avid fan of sports, especially basketball, and football. He is also a die-hard fan of the St. Louis Cardinals, Iowa State Cyclones, Chicago Bulls, and Denver Broncos.
