Makaula has worked at the KCRA team as the weekend evening anchor. There he was also the weekday reporter who is part of our investigative team. He departed from the station in January 2022 and he did not state his next stop. Before joining KCRA, he was in Northern California, where he co-anchored the weekday morning newscast for the WFOR station in Miami, Florida, owned and run by CBS.

Walter’s journalistic experience is diverse. His expertise varies from tales of foreign fugitives on the run to the red carpet of Hollywood. In Calgary, Canada, Walter received the Crime Stoppers International Media Award for his Hawaii Most Wanted television news series. The capture of 12 fugitives resulted from his findings and coordination with federal, state, and county law enforcement agencies.

He covered the American Idol and Now You Think You Should Dance finales for audiences around the world, and interviewed newsmakers such as Hillary Clinton, Ben Affleck, Sir Anthony Hopkins, and David Beckham. Walter has the opportunity to select warm cities with great beaches to live and work in. He spent nearly six years anchoring all of the FOX affiliate’s evening newscasts in San Diego prior to moving to Miami.

Originally from Hawaii, where he anchored at 5 p.m. News at NBC affiliate KHNL and the station’s top-rated evening newscast co-anchored at 9 p.m. Any single weekday. Prior to KHNL, he worked at KGMB, the CBS affiliate in Honolulu, as a general assignment reporter.

He created and produced the award-winning Entertainment News Review show prior to his television broadcasting career. Walter loves traveling to exotic locations in his spare time. He’s been to Hong Kong, Thailand, Myanmar, Laos, Colombia, Peru, Chile, and Mexico in the last two years. He stayed in Tokyo, Paris, and Milan as well.
