Previously, she served as a multi-media journalist at WILX in Lansing, Miami for two years and while she was in the station, she did everything from investigative, and general work, to fun and lighthearted pieces. Furthermore, while she was at WILX, she was responsible for the shooting, and editing of her own daily stories, reporting, and writing.

While she served as a reporter in Lansing, she received a number of reporting awards. She received the first one for her investigative work in a local animal shelter, later on, the Michigan Pet Fund Alliance gave her the “Best Friends” award. Furthermore, the Michigan Association of Broadcasters honored her as Best Reporter and Investigative Story

Alani was also honored by the Michigan Association of Broadcasters for Best Reporter and Investigative Story, for the same local animal shelter investigation.
