Alex Finnie Career
She was educated in Miami and attended high school at the Cushman School and the New World School of the Arts. At St. John’s University in New York City, Alex earned her Bachelor of Science in television and film making.
At Local 10, Alex has had the chance to cover a wide range of stories so far. In addition to the daily news in the fast-paced market of South Florida, she has also traveled outside the viewing area to cover big stories.
Alex covered Hurricane Michael in the Florida Panhandle in October 2018. Before, during and after the storm, she was there reporting. The first South Florida station to send a crew to cover the destructive Category 5 storm that destroyed significant parts of the Florida Panhandle was Local 10. Besides that, in October 2018, Alex also traveled to Pittsburgh to cover the horrific mass shooting at the Tree of Life Synagogue. The only South Florida station that traveled to Pittsburgh was Local 10.
Alex has worked around the world in newsrooms, from New York City to Alabama. Alex has had the opportunity to interview a wide range of prominent individuals during her career, including President Barack Obama, President Donald Trump, Reverend Al Sharpton, and Oprah Winfrey, to name a few. As well as the contentious Alabama Senate race between Roy Moore and Sen. Doug Jones, she covered the highly reported Alabama Gov. Robert Bentley controversy that led to his resignation. She also had the distinction of covering the incident that led to the Voting Rights Act, the 50-year anniversary of “Bloody Sunday” in Selma, Alabama.
Alex loves spending time with her family during her off time, volunteering in her community, and relaxing when she can. She loves to be back in South Florida to share the stories that have affected the culture she has been calling home since childhood.
