Fernandez serves at WPLG Local 8 News as a news reporter. She is excited to be back home working for the station she grew up watching, after spending four years in the Deep South. When she was in college, Jenise also interned at WPLG.
Prior to joining Local 10, Jenise was a reporter and fill-in anchor for WEAR in Pensacola. There, Jenise spent two years covering everything from breaking news to feature stories. In April 2014, during the historic floods, she was the first reporter to broadcast live. She also covered the jail explosion in Escambia County, the funeral of Col. Bud Day, and the kicking off of F-35 training at Eglin Air Force Base.
As a one-man-band reporter/fill-in anchor at KATC in Lafayette, Louisiana, Jenise got her start in the business. While there, Jenise was nominated for a Suncoast Regional Emmy for her ongoing coverage of college student Mickey Shunick’s disappearance and murder.
She is a proud Alpha Omicron Pi sorority member. She is also a former Miss Miami and at the 2010 Miss Florida Pageant, she finished fourth runner-up. When coming to her education, she graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Communications and a Minor in Psychology from Florida International University in 2010.
Jenise is very fond of spending time with her huge Cuban family. She is also Mr. Jay Gatsby’s proud “dog mommy” a miniature American Eskimo with a large personality. You will catch her cheering on her favorite teams, the Miami Dolphins and Miami Heat, but after living for some time in Louisiana, she will confess to having a “soft spot” for the Saints.
