In 1979, Mehalshick began his broadcast journalism job at Wilkes University. He got a scholarship to run the college radio station. At WQEQ-EXPX, the Hazleton Area Radio Station in 1982 he started working as their reporter. Since 1985 after joining WBRE, he has served in several positions in the station including producer, Investigative Reporting, assignment desk, as well as an anchor position.
