Brandt is a proud 1986 alumnus of the University of Kansas, where he obtained a bachelor’s degree in Atmospheric Science. In regard to his profession, Brandt serves at KATV ABC 7 News as a chief meteorologist. Joining the station, he took over the position of Ned Perme who had just retired – Ned served at the station for over 3 decades. Brandt says that he works on providing accurate weather information every day and his viewers depend on Barry’s experience with tracking severe weather across Arkansas.
Brandt worked for KQTV in St. Joseph, Missouri as a chief meteorologist prior to joining KATV. Before that, he was still a student in college. Over the years of his career as a meteorologist, he has covered many weather events and stories – he has reported on all storms! Since the year 1988, Brandt has been part of the AMS – American Meteorological Society and he also holds their Seal of Approval (he earned it only 2 years after joining it).
