Betty Nguyen Career

She joined WPIX from NBC and MSNBC, where “Early Today” and First Look.” were anchored. She was previously a The Today Show” reporter and fill-in news anchor for “Weekend Today,” as well as a contributor to the Today Parenting Network, the working moms’ multiplatform community of NBC. Prior to that, Nguyen was a news anchor for “CBS This Morning Saturday,” hosted “The CBS Morning News” and was an anchor and The Early Show.” correspondent. Nguyen anchored the weekend version of “CNN Newsroom.” before joining CBS News.

Nguyen won the Peabody and Alfred I. DuPont awards for her coverage of Hurricane Katrina and the tsunami in South Asia. Nguyen was included in the Asian Hall of Fame in 2015. In 2007, for her role as the first Vietnamese-American to host a national television news show in the United States, the Smithsonian Institute honored Nguyen.

With a bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, Nguyen graduated magna cum laude from the University of Texas at Austin. In 2007, at her alma mater, the Betty Nguyen Scholarship in Broadcasting was established to help students achieve a career in broadcast journalism. Involved in charitable work, she is the co-founder of Support the Hungry, a non-profit group supplying poverty-stricken families with humanitarian relief.
