Monahan is a proud alumnus of Penn State University, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Meteorology, as well as Master of Science in Meteorology. He earned his Bachelor’s in the year 2004 and his Master’ in the year 2007. 

Brian Monahan Career

Monahan serves at WSB-TV as a Morning Meteorologist. He began as a weekend morning/noon meteorologist at the station. He took the current position in February of 2019 after the retirement of Meteorologist Karen Minton. Monahan is thrilled to be in a region where there is some of the most dynamic and challenging weather to forecast like severe weather outbreaks from droughts to winter storms.

Monahan’s work with WSB has taken him across the nation, covering storms that have left unforgettable marks. He reported on the historic winter storms in Boston in the year 2015, which dropped several feet of snow in several weeks. This crippled the Boston region and ripped all the way to metro Atlanta. In late January in the year 2016, he covered the devastating tornado outbreak that had ripple effects across southwest Georgia. In October the same year, Hurricane Matthews’s razor-thin pass off the central Florida coast as a major hurricane. Monahan also covered the historic flooding of Harvey’s rains in Houston in the year 2017 and Hurricane Florence in North Carolina in the year 2018. 

Before coming to WSB, he was working for KIRO-TV, a CBS-affiliated station in the Seattle Metropolitan Area. He spent 1 year and 11 months there working as a Weekday Morning/Noon Meteorologist. Before that, he was the Weekend Evening Meteorologist at WFTV, an ABC-affiliated and WSB’s sister station in Orlando, Florida for 2 years.

Growing up, Monahan has always been fascinated with weather. His passion for TV has been there since he was 10 years old when he was waking up at 6 am to watch the news. Monahan considers himself fortunate to be among the people who are doing what they aspired to when they were youngsters.  

Besides weather, Monahan is also an ardent lover of sports, especially college sports. He has been to several games “Between the Hedges”. He also has an interest in politics and fitness. When he is not chasing the weather, he likes going to the gym. Additionally, Monahan loves keeping animals: has 2 dogs, a chocolate lab named Jackson, as well as a boxer named Bella.
