He then went to serve at WPTV-TV in West Palm Beach, Florida as a Chief Meteorologist for 3 years. While working for WPTV, he won multiple awards from the Associated Press, Best of Atlanta Magazine and Best of Cobb Magazine, Red Cross, Best of Gwinnett Magazine, and Civil Defense and Coast Guard. All these were for his weather coverage.

After that, he then attended the University of Minnesota. While attending the university, he was hired by KARE-TV in Minneapolis, and there he served as a chief meteorologist. During his stint with KARE, he won numerous awards including the Minnesota Teacher’s Award. This was for his weather education series at a program that involved KARE-TV, students, and teachers. The program in the end evolved to Weather School.
