One of Cordero’s most notable stories at WVIT was that of Cassandra C, a 17-year-old girl who received forced chemotherapy as decided by the State Supreme Court. Cordero spent a year or so dabbling with consumer stories before diving in full-time, as part of the station’s first consumer advocacy team called NBC Connecticut Response. In two years, they recovered more than $250,000 for viewers.

Cordero had spent nine years exploring three states in three different regions before coming to The Midwest. Learning new communities is one of the biggest perks that drew her to journalism, and she couldn’t be more happier to start making Minnesota home. Cordero has reported live aboard a US Coast Guard ice cutter and also interviewed former HUD secretary Julián Castro, three of the first female World War II Marines.
