Walters studied at both Wheeling University and Bethany College from 1979 to 1983. He currently works for WTOP serving as an anchor since joining the station in 2010. Before joining WTOP, Walters worked for DEROTAM LLC as the co-founder from 2006 to date(2024). At DEROTAM LLC, he works as a tech incubator designer to increase minority opportunities in tech. Alongside his anchoring career at WTOP, he has been serving as a News anchor at Newsy since May 2022 in the Atlanta Metropolitan Area.

Previously, Del worked as the Washington Bureau Chief at Black Television News Network from April 2019 to May 2022. While there, his role was to supervise Washington news content, liaise with Congress, and supervise network investigative operations. Prior to joining Black Television News Network, Walters served as Anchor of Your World This Morning at Al Jazeera Media Network from May 2012 to June 2016. At Al Jazeera Media Network, he co-anchored the show together with Stephanie Sy, in the winter of 2015.

Before joining Al Jazeera Media Network, Del served at WJLA-TV as a news anchor from June 1985 to March 2010. While at WJLA-TV, he received more than 20 Emmy awards, lots of Edward R. Murrow awards, and hundreds of other awards for his news anchoring and senior investigative reporting. As he was working for WJLA-TV, Del took another job at Johnson Publishing Company as a columnist from 2007 to 2010. During the 2008 campaign, he was a regular guest on Hardball with Chris Matthews. Walters kickstarted his career at WDAF-TV as a reporter where he worked from 1980 to 1985. Besides his journalism career, Walters is a film producer and during the Cannes International Film Festival, one of his films premiered and later on won lots of international awards.
