Dobratz serves at WTNH News 8 as a sports reporter, appearing on the 6 pm and 11 pm newscasts. He joined News 8 as a writer for the news department and, later he progressed to produce noon and then 5 pm newscasts. He has been part of Sports Team 8 for more than twenty years.
The Sports Department came calling when the tournament was over in 2002 after he was requested to produce Pilot Pen sports coverage for News 8. For several years he worked as a sports producer until 2011 when he made a move to sports reporting and henceforth he has been working with Sports Team 8.
His inclusion in the on-air team came as a result of his years of behind-the-scenes access to Connecticut’s biggest sporting events. He has covered UConn for the Women’s Final Four in New Orleans and Atlanta. Erik has also produced many golf and tennis specials for News 8, as well as the Emmy, nominated production of Huskies All Access, the MyTV9 High School Football Game of the Week, and Inside Huskies Football. He created his on-air debut with Sports Team 8, doing color commentary for the MyTV9 High School Football Game of the Week.
Before joining WTNH News 8, he worked for the CBS Radio Network in New York City and WLIS/WMRD radio in Middletown. When coming to his education, he graduated from the University of Connecticut with a degree in Journalism and Political Science.
