George Waldenberger Career
Waldenberger serves at WFTV as a Meteorologist. Before joining the station, he worked for KSHB-TV in Kansas City, Missouri as a Meteorologist for 3 years (January 2010 – December 2012). Waldenberger has served as a meteorologist at KJRH-TV in Tulsa, Oklahoma for two and a half years (August 2007 – January 2010), as well as at KMEG 14 News in Sioux City, Iowa for 2 years (September 2005 – August 2007). He has also served as a Weather Producer at KTLA-TV in Los Angeles, California for a year. Throughout his career, he has covered everything from snowstorms to heat waves to thunderstorms to ice storms, in the Central Plains.
Growing up, Waldenberger experienced Winter Park and winter storms. Upon graduation from the University of Wisconsin, his 1st job was not in meteorology but it was Geotechnical engineering, where he served at Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers. This was a firm that designed foundations for New York City skyscrapers. He worked there for one and a half years (April 2000 – September 2001).
At Mueser Rutledge Consulting Engineers, he worked on 2 projects. One project sent him trekking deep below the Manhattan streets for the purpose of monitoring the construction vibrations on the tracks of the Subway. The other project had him approve pits for the construction of the 44-story building foundation. He says that the job was fascinating.
From there, he attended the University of California where he now joined the weather workforce, at the Atmospheric and Oceanic Sciences department. There he served as a graduate student researcher studying 2 significant storms, the 1993 Storm of the Century and Hurricane Andrew. He was responsible for manipulating the computer models to examine how likely it was to make these storms even stronger.
Waldenberger has worked as a part-time Snowboard Instructor at Snow Creek Ski in Missouri, the U.S. for 1 year and 3 months. During his leisure, he likes exploring the local communities in central Florida. His favorite weather condition is snow.
