The following year, a law was signed by the governor that made CO monitors at each daycare in the state after her story exposed a loophole in the books.
Since joining the WTVF, McDonald has won multiple nominations for a Nashville/Midsouth Regional Emmy Writing Award. The community has also recognized her for her devotion to broadcasting the aftereffects of the Covenant School mass shooting. Her coverage earned her two Emmy nominations in 2023.
McDonald won second place in the Associated Press competition for Best TV Reporter in Tennessee in 2020. Previously, she worked at WGAL in Central Pennsylvania. There, she was tasked with producing the station’s first mini-series which highlighted student life at the Milton Hershey School in Hershey.
