In her role as WTVF’s consumer investigative reporter, she has uncovered corrupt business practices at Bill Heard Chevrolet, leading to the company’s shutting down its Nashville dealership.
Kraus revealed neglect at the Tennessee State Veterans’ Home which prompted the U.S. Department of Justice to order the state to quickly refine conditions at the nursing home. She also displayed the alarming flop rate of a well-known type of smoke detector. This report prompted the Metro Nashville Fire Department to declare changes to its detector giveaway program.
Kraus investigated the Veterans Support Organization leading the state to fine the VSO $20,000 and ordering the VSO to change the way it acquires funds. Her investigation showing the hazards of novelty lighters made state lawmakers vote to their ban in Tennessee. She exposed the misuse of handicapped parking permits prompting lawmakers to fortify the demands to get these special placards.
Kraus’s investigative reports at WTVF started after she discovered the top managers at the regional warehouse and headquarters of Feed the Children looting from the charity. As a result, the Oklahoma City-based firm then dismissed the whole front office staff and the Nashville District Attorney filed charges against the executive director.
During her career at WTVF, Kraus has traveled with troops from Fort Campbell to Nicaragua and El Salvador following Hurricane Mitch, was the first to interview convicted serial killer Paul Dennis Reid from his jail cell right following his capture, and did one of the last interviews with James Earl Ray, the assassin of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr., in prison just before he died. In May 2010, Kraus co-anchored WTVF’s live broadcast for over 10 solid hours during the unforgettable flooding in middle Tennessee.
