Jacey Birch Career
In January 2004, Jacey joined Local 10 News and is proud that many of her animal investigations have not only trained individuals but modified legislation on animals. Books in the counties of Miami-Dade and Broward. Beach Middle School and High School of Deerfield Beach. She attended the University of Florida after graduation, receiving her Bachelor of Arts degree in political science and her Bachelor of Science degree in journalism.
After college, she went to Clarksburg, West Virginia, and WBOY to anchor the weekend newscast for her first work on television. A small coal-mining town, Clarksburg was a great cultural change from Miami. The first story she covered was the New Year’s Eve Y2K “crisis” While she was there, snowstorms were a huge part of daily life, and this Florida girl still can’t believe she maneuvered through those snow-covered roads and mountains as a one-man band, chasing down her tales.
Six months later, she took up her next position at WDBJ in Roanoke, Virginia, where she was in charge of Star City’s daily weather forecasts and entertainment stories. She enjoyed the feeling of small-towns, the gentle change of seasons, and the stunning Blue Ridge Mountains.
From Virginia, they went to Nashville, Tennessee, the world’s capital of country music. There, Jacey was in charge of anchoring and reporting from the field on the weekend weathercasts. While at WZTV, for a special series, she spent a week in South Carolina going to boot camp with the Marine trainees.
The call to come home came from there, by way of Local 10. She has been reporting and anchoring for the past 15 years, as well as covering the weather, traffic, the Heat going to the Finals, and more hurricanes than she can even count. But nothing beats being alive, watching, and learning from her “TV idols,” Don Noe and Dwight Lauderdale, at the station she grew up working at.
She is a major animal lover and when it comes to saving homeless animals living on doggy death row, is actively urging pet parents to “adopt, don’t shop” As she works closely with all of the rescue groups in South Florida, especially the Humane Society of Broward County, where she serves as a board member of PAWS, animals are close and dear to her heart. She also serves as a Zoo Miami board member. Jacey is so passionate about her animal rights that she has also become a vegan so she can “walk the talk” and protect all animals, not just cats and dogs.
She also wholeheartedly accepts the title “tree hugger” as she focuses much of her resources on attempts to save our planet, including driving her loyal Prius. Jacey, an avid environmentalist, strives to make a difference in saving our world and enjoys covering stories about the seas, reefs, beaches, parks, and renewable energy sources in South Florida.
