Jawan Strader is an American Emmy-awarded journalist who serves NBC 6 South Florida as a co-anchor of NBC 6 News, weeknights at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. with NBC 6 anchor Jackie Nespral and at 11 p.m. alongside NBC 6 anchor Trina Robinson. Additionally, he serves as a host of  Voices, a community affairs program devoted to the black community and the disenfranchised, alongside Jawan Strader. He joined the station in January 2016.

Strader serves NBC 6 South Florida as a co-anchor of NBC 6 News, weeknights at 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. with NBC 6 anchor Jackie Nespral and at 11 p.m. alongside NBC 6 anchor Trina Robinson. Additionally, he serves as a host of  Voices, a community affairs program devoted to the black community and the disenfranchised, alongside Jawan Strader. He joined the station in January 2016.

Strader has served as a journalist for more than a two-decade anchor desk, covering some of the biggest and most impactful stories that have touched South Florida and the country. He anchored the heartbreaking Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School shooting and the Hollywood Hills nursing home tragedy where 12 seniors died after Hurricane Irma.

Following this, he attained an Emmy award in 2018. During the church shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, he was the only South Florida anchor in the field covering the event. In addition, he was in Orlando speaking with the victims and sharing their stories with viewers after the terrorist shooting inside Pulse nightclub.

Prior to that, he was in Havana, Cuba to cover former President Obama’s historic trip. Indianapolis, Indiana is his native home but after residing in South Florida for more than ten years, he feels it is a second home to him. While serving as a journalist, he traveled to Tulsa, Cleveland, Miami, Austin, Indiana, and South Bend.

After graduating from Indiana University, he was able to secure a job at WTVJ/NBC 6 in 2012. Before he joined WTVJ, he previously worked at the local CBS affiliate serving as a weekend anchor, 10 p.m, a morning anchor, and host of community affairs show. The Miami New Times recognized him as the Best News Anchor in 2018.

Furthermore, CCNN Live gave him 2016 the Media Excellence award. For Media Coverage of Public Education, he received an award of distinction from the education fund of Miami-Dade. Legacy magazine named him as one of South Florida’s most powerful and influential black people by the legacy magazine.
