He worked as a morning and noon meteorologist at WTWO-TV in Terre Haute, IN, before Jay came to WTVG-TV. Berschback anchored the weather in Indiana, read news reports, interviewed a wide variety of guests, and even hosted a live cooking portion.

He was the fill-in weather anchor at WLNS-TV in Lansing, Michigan, while attending college, and he worked at a private weather forecasting firm called Commercial Weather Services (CWS), Inc. His principal responsibility at CWS was to provide on-air and off-air weather forecasts for WJR-AM in Detroit.

His appearance in the coverage commemorating the 100th Anniversary of the Toledo Zoo in June 2000 was one of Jay’s most unforgettable moments as a newscaster. Jay made his national television debut while reporting this story when he appeared alongside Tony Perkins on Good Morning America and got the opportunity to meet and interview Jack Hanna, host of Jack Hanna’s Animal Adventures. Jay was able to travel with the Red Baron Squadron at the Toledo Air Show in August 2004. His training included flips and turns and loops in a bi-plane.

Both the American Meteorological Society and the National Weather Association have given Jay their Television Seal of Approval. He is an active member of both organizations as well. When coming to his education, he is a proud graduate of the College of Engineering of the University of Michigan, Jay earned a bachelor’s degree in atmospheric, oceanic, and space sciences (all degrees in meteorology).
