In that role, he oversaw CNN, CNN International, HLN, and CNN Digital. Before that, he served as the president and CEO of NBCUniversal. Additionally, he had been chosen in January 2013, to take over Jim Walton’s role as the president of CNN Worldwide.
Furthermore, he also served as the senior Washington correspondent, covering the overall 2020 campaign, as well as the network’s senior White House correspondent, covering the Trump administration with a focus on President Trump’s pivotal role in the 2018 midterm election campaign for all of the network’s programs and platforms.
He has traveled around the world with President Barack Obama, George W. Bush, and Donald Trump. He resigned from CNN in February 2022 due to a consensual relationship with Allison Gollust (a key lieutenant).
Before joining CNN in 2015, he previously worked at ABC News where he served as the senior Washington correspondent. During this time, he reported on the Obama administration and the Republican Party as it gained control of the United States Senate in the 2014 midterm elections. Additionally, he served as the national political correspondent for The New York Times.

When coming to his education, he attended the University of Nebraska, and his career in journalism began at the Des Moines Register.
