Howard’s grandfather used to say, “There’s always gonna be weather, whether you like it or not.” He would say this whenever Howard talked about snow coming.
Howard’s journey to Eastern Carolina started with his childhood in upstate New York, then his teenage years in South Florida. On his very 1st flight into West Palm Beach, he looked out the window and said to his mom, “Look, there is snow on the ground!” She gave him a funny smile. But when they got off the plane, Howard realized the “snow” was actually sand, and the air was super hot! This experience, among others, intrigued Howard’s eagerness to study more about the atmosphere of the earth.
Just a week after starting college, he got his very 1st job as the morning weather forecaster for a TV station in Panama City, Florida. While he was thrilled about his new job, he soon realized a big issue. He had to change his alarm clock from 10 AM to 2 AM! Strong coffee and cold showers became his morning routine to help him wake up. Besides journalism, Howard is also passionate about volunteering. He is affiliated with the Pitt County Council on Aging and the Humane Society of Eastern Carolina.

In January 2020, Howard was interviewed on WITN-TV and he talked about his heart attack some years back. He said that in the year 2014, he had his 3rd heart attack. He also stated that he was having a normal day with his family when he suddenly felt chest pains. However, Howard underwent the required treatments and eventually got well.
