James serves at WITN 7 News as a weekend evening meteorologist. His interest in meteorology started when he was just 6 years old. He was on vacation with his family in Orlando when Hurricane Charley hit southwest Florida hard in the year 2004. The strong winds and heavy rain fascinated him and sparked his interest in weather. Another event that influenced his career choice was surviving an F3 tornado in the year 2006. Seeing the tornado’s power and destruction made him want to become a meteorologist so he could warn people about dangerous weather and help save lives.
While at ECU, James learned how to make weather briefings and explain forecasts to students who were not studying meteorology. In the year 2018, when Hurricane Florence was about to hit Eastern North Carolina, James teamed up with the president of the ECU AMS Club. Together, they helped organize forecast discussions and community volunteer activities for their classmates.
James is not just interested in weather broadcasting but also loves collecting recordings of radio shows and jingles from different radio stations across North Carolina. Plus, he enjoys and is really good at public speaking.
