Wheeler serves freelance. Previously, she served Sky News as a weather presenter and producer for more than 2 and a half decades since joining the station in October 1994. Further, she worked at Central East Television where she served as a continuity announcer from 1983 at Lenton Lane Studios.
From January 1987 to November 1988, she worked at Castle Donington with Orion Airways. She joined the East Midlands Today as a meteorologist when it first began in 1991. Furthermore, she presented the afternoon weekend program from 1988 to 1993 on Radio Lincolnshire. When she joined the BSkyB team, she also presented forecasts for Channel 5 to February 2012.
Furthermore, in 1998, she was voted Best European Weather Presenter. For several years, she resided in Portugal and commuted to the UK-based Sky News Centre in Isleworth on a weekly basis to present the weather. During the initial coverage of the disappearance of Madeleine McCann, she acted as a live reporter in Praia da Luz before journalists arrived from London.
