John Carter is an American anchor/reporter working for WBTV in Charlotte, North Carolina. He serves as a news co-anchor of WBTV News This Morning from 5:00 to 9:00 AM Monday through Friday. He joined the station in May 1996.

His family moved to Northern Carolina when John was nine. They moved to Shelby first then to Asheville, Black Mountain, Swant tonoa, and then back to Shelby.

John Carter Career

Carter serves at WBTV as a co-anchor of WBTV News This Morning from 5:00 to 9:00 AM Monday through Friday. He started working at WBTV as a news assistant after graduating from college. John had several positions at WBTV over the next few years, including general assignment reporter, consumer reporter, chief/reporter of the Western Bureau, news producer/consumer director, and news producer/managing editor. He was also the host of the famous Carolina Camera segment, traveling to bring back tales of fascinating and unusual people, locations, and stuff around North and South Carolina.

John left WBTV following his work on Carolina Camera and formed his own video production company. John became very interested in politics during his time away from WBTV and was elected to the Senate of North Carolina, serving the 25th District of Cleveland, Gaston, Lincoln, and Rutherford Counties. Because of family and business considerations, John decided not to run for a second term.

John started working with Mecklenburg County as a Public Relations Specialist after leaving the Senate, where he oversaw the video production work of the county and served as a county spokesperson. WBTV came calling again only a few years later, and John returned to the station to anchor the WBTV News Morning Show and later, WBTV News at Noon.

In late 2005, John was diagnosed in the United States with prostate cancer, the number one cancer in men. He has made a variety of diagnosis reports and continues to make updates on his therapy as well as stories on the latest in medical science and technology. When coming to his education, he is a proud graduate of Appalachian State University in Boone, where he graduated with a degree in Communication Arts with a focus in Broadcasting.
