He started his on-air job at WFRA radio in Franklin, Pennsylvania where he served as their News Director. He also served at WKQW in Oil City for a short stint. While at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania, he worked as a political science major. He never considered he would be in the news industry, particularly television news.
He worked for decades in Erie and was ready to retire but Scott MacDowell News Director offered him an offer he could not decline. It was to do special stories that sometimes would be heartwarming, thought-provoking, and sometimes unusual. In March 2021, “The Last Word,” a news segment was born where it broadcasts Mondays and Fridays at 6 pm. He is having fun traveling throughout Southwestern New York, Northeastern Ohio, and Northwestern Pennsylvania to bring stories to the viewers.
Last serves in the Knight of Columbus and is an active member at Sacred Heart Parish in Erie. The Erie News Now Trivia Team competes each year to benefit the Achievement Center where he is a small contributor. In addition, he enjoys doing stand-up comedy for the Laughter in the Limelight fundraiser to benefit NAMI and the Mental Health Association of NW Pennsylvania. He won the fantasy football championship at the TV station during its first year of existence about 20 years ago.
During his free time, he is out busy exploring bike trails across the country and in the region together with his wife. They also try to master recipes from the Great British baking cookbooks. He also enjoys running, he completed 17 marathons, and now he is happily finishing a 5K such as the annual Applefest race in Franklin.
