Johnson serves at MSNBC and NBC News as the host of  The Week with Joshua Johnson on MSNBC. He joined the NBC network in the year 2019. His news show on MSNBC airs on Saturdays from 8 pm to 10 pm and on Sundays from 9 pm to 10 pm. Before joining the NBC network, he worked for WAMU and was nationally distributed by NPR as the host of 1A  from 2017 through 2019.

From 2004 to 2010, his career began in public radio where he worked on a collaborative project between the Miami Herald and WLRN. Later on, he relocated to San Francisco where he served as a morning newscaster for KQED, an NPR affiliate until early 2016.

In addition, he anchored the radio series Truth Be Told which was distributed by Public Radio Internationa and produced by KQED. The show dealt with issues of race in America, and four episodes were broadcast nationally.

Furthermore, he taught courses in podcasting at the UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism and he served as a  substitute host of KQED’s Forum. The Diane Rehm Show featured him as a guest-hosted in September 2016, and later on, Rehm announced that he would be taking over her post as its host in November. Additionally, he happens to be a member of the National Association of Black Journalists. Talking about his education, he attended the  University of Miami.
