Kelley Dunn Career

She was born in Monterey California native but she grew up in Daytona Beach, Florida. For her education, she attended the University of Florida (Go Gators!) and graduated in 1985, class with a degree in broadcasting. Two months after she had received her Broadcasting degree, she was able to secure her first job on February 10, 1986, at WPTV. She started off as a reporter and within six months she had already been promoted to serve as an anchor at the station.

She has focused on community-minded issues for more than thirty-two years. Some of the stories she has covered include; a deadly eye cancer that sometimes can be seen in photographs, and her in-depth report helped raise awareness about this disease and helped save the lives of at least three children in Florida. Additionally, she has done a number of reports on the automotive devices available to assist prevent such tragedies and the legislation that was eventually passed by Congress making these devices mandatory in new vehicles.

Furthermore, she told a story about a family that lost their son to drugs and how they turned their devastation into a program that helps educate students on the perils of drug abuse. She also went ahead to do a story whereby a  Treasure Coast mother accidentally left her infant son in her vehicle all day. she was sleep-deprived and working full time and feels her brain tricked her into thinking she had dropped him off at daycare.  The mother shared her story in hopes of sparing other families the pain and agony she will live with for the rest of her life. Her viewers always receive her features well, and also numerous professional organizations have acknowledged her efforts as well.

In her career, while serving as a journalist she has received awards that have recognized her work, such organizations include; the Telly Awards, the Associated Press, and the Society of Professional Journalists. She has been able to juggle around being a wife and mother of two while working full-time like many of us. Over the years, she has supported numerous local organizations such as; Mary’s Shelter, The Arts Council of Martin County, Dress for Success, and the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation.

During her leisure time, she loves organizing and decorating, and a number of times she has stated that her best friend is a label maker.
