Hurtado was diagnosed with breast cancer in the year 2010. She says that she was diagnosed with it because her mom was a breast cancer survivor until it eventually took her life. Hurtado however underwent some therapies and surgery and fortunately recovered. Since her recovery, she has become the local emcee for the Susan G. Komen events. She is a strong supporter of the Face of Courage non-profit.
Hurtado also strongly supports the My Hope Chest which funds reconstruction for women with no insurance. She donates proceeds from A Shoot for a Cure to the Florida Hospital Foundation to fund mammograms for women without insurance, annually. Hurtado is an active member of the American Cancer Society’s Reach to Recovery and Making Strides Against Breast Cancer events.
