There, she mainly focused on areas where the Florida government could better serve its citizens, without wasting any tax dollars. One of the reports she did there revealed that Orlando city gave a company $1 Million tax dollars to build a development that it never built.

At WFTV she also exposed how easy it was to purchase illegal drugs right off the shelves at an Orange County store. After the investigation, the office of the Orange County Sheriff raided the store and pressed charges against the owner. Before that, Brown was working as a news reporter for KCOY-TV, in Santa Barbara County, California, and WMC-TV in Memphis, Tennessee.

Lori Brown FOX 4

Brown serves at KDFW FOX 4 as an Investigative News Reporter. Since joining the station, she has been grateful to see the many results of the stories that she covered with the FOX 4 team helping right wrongs. In the historic Winter Storm of the year 2021, she and FOX 4 team informed the Texas residents who were forced to fill up buckets of water at a fire hydrant, since the water at their complex had been shut off for several days. They also got results for other Texas residents who didn’t have water or power for 5 days, yet their apartment complexes were not providing any alternatives while they repaired leaking and broken pipes.

Brown and FOX 4 team also assisted numerous people who waited for months to get unemployment checks, which they needed to pay their bills. This was in the early COVID-19 pandemic. The delays resulted in widespread fraud plaguing an overloaded system. Among those whose names were fraudulently used to file claims, there were 2 state lawmakers. What was made later to help in improving the system is the legislative reforms. In the year 2019, there were investigations made, which revealed an alarming new apartment towing practice that left apartment residents feeling targeted.

In the year 2017, Brown and FOX 4 team revealed a broken system within Dallas Animal Services, which failed to investigate and prosecute animal abuse cases in the city of Dallas. This investigation featured many cases which were not solved, that involved dead animals including one with a dog whose throat was deeply cut, yet no one agency tracked the cases. Among 4 thousand reports of cruelty, eleven made it to the District Attorney for prosecution. The Dallas Police Department has added an animal cruelty unit since the investigation was done. This story was recognized with awards from Dallas Bar Association and the National Press Club.

Brown also did another investigative report where she revealed a superintendent who was living in a $700K house bought with tax dollars. The school district used $125K tax dollars for the renovation of the house, without being approved by the school board. Brown and FOX 4’s effort led to the school district launching its own investigation and the school board, later on, removed the home from the contract of the Superintendent.

Additionally, Brown has covered the devastation left behind in Houston after the 2017 Hurricane Harvey, but it was also inspiring to see the grit and generosity of the people of Texas in the wake of the storm.
