He’s had a fascination with the weather for as long as he can remember. He experienced a wide range of weather as a child growing up near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Thunderstorms, tornado warnings, snowstorms, cold outbreaks with temperatures near or below zero degrees, heat waves with temperatures above 100 degrees, hurricanes, tropical storms, and flash flooding are all possibilities.
It doesn’t matter what you’re looking for, they’ve got it. Further, he used to sit at the windows for hours as a kid, watching the clouds and storms move in. His kindergarten teacher performed an activity in which the students were asked what their professional objectives were. Additionally, he recalls asking her how to pronounce meteorologist.
Superstorm Sandy wreaked havoc on southeastern Pennsylvania, the Jersey shore, and New York in 2012. Moreover, he recalls days of nonstop coverage from local Philadelphia meteorologists and The Weather Channel. While the storm’s devastation and effects were enormous and unexpected, Mike’s attention was drawn to his family and friends’ reactions.
Despite the fact that meteorologists, news stations, and government officials warned everyone of the storm’s severity days in advance, many individuals were taken off guard by its severity. Thus he decided to seek a career in weather communication in order to assist his family, friends, and community in preparing for severe weather.
During his time at Penn State, he was a member of the Campus Weather Service and served as the organization’s Head of Communications. He also participated in student-run productions such as “Up in the Air” and “Weather Or Not,” and worked as a director/graphics producer and on-air host for the department’s weeknight weather show “Weather World.”
Also, he interned at FOX29 Philadelphia as a meteorology intern with meteorologists Kathy Orr, Scott Williams, Sue Serio, and Jeff Robbins. When Mother Nature is not busy and we have those brilliant sunny days, he enjoys going on a hike, swimming, biking, scuba diving, or grilling.
