A few days a week, Nigel also doubles as a reporter. At Bowling Green State University in Bowling Green, Ohio, Nigel received his BA in Telecommunications. Interpersonal Communications was the main subject of his research. At WTVG, the ABC affiliate in Toledo, Ohio, Nigel’s professional career began. He worked there, learning the ropes behind the camera, as an assistant director and weekend assignment writer.
His next move was to WCJB in Gainesville, Florida, where he worked as a reporter for a one-man band from their Ocala office. Then he joined WYFF 4 in 1999 and started making his mark in the Upstate. Nigel received the “Specialty Reporting” Emmy Award in 2005, putting viewers beyond the Marine Boot camp. He has also been honored with Emmy awards for ‘Business’ and ‘Spot News Reporting’ by the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. Nigel had the ability to give several exclusive interviews to our viewers. He’s one of only a few journalists in the world to be given a sit-down duel with former President Barack and former President Michelle Obama.
Nigel was one of three Hearst Television reporters picked to cover the Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, Summer Olympic Games in 2016. He covered the games for just over 3 weeks, interviewed competitors, and showed viewers from nearly 30 TV stations around the country some of the most breathtaking and iconic locations in the region. His coverage was so well received around the nation by Hearst stations that he was also chosen to represent the organization in PyeongChang, South Korea, as a member of the 2018 Olympic team covering the Winter Games.
Nigel has made it his mission to advance the treatment of people with Neurological Disabilities in the state of South Carolina. He partnered with the Greenville Hospital System to develop the first Neurological Institute in the state to assist patients with ALS, Multiple Sclerosis, Parkinson’s, and other associated diseases. He also helped establish and organize the annual Greenville Polo Classic, sponsored by the Neurological Institute, as part of a team. Nigel can be found in the church, cooking in the kitchen, spending time with his friends, or reading some financial magazine he can get his hands on when he is not working.
