Harvey serves as the co-anchor of the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. newscasts at CBS2/KCAL9. On joining the station, she started off by serving as the original anchor of the nightly three-hour newscast. The Academy of Television Arts and Sciences awarded her the prestigious LA Area Governor’s Award in 2015. She was then inducted into the National Association of Black Journalists Hall of Fame in February 2012 at the Newseum in Washington, D.C.

Harvey has also made appearances on national TV including the CBS Television Network daytime show “The Talk” as a guest co-host. Since beginning her journalism career, she has enclosed a ton of stories including some of the biggest local news stories, traveled internationally, and presidential inaugurations. In addition to that, she has also reported on the AIDS epidemic in Russia and Eastern Africa, the civil war in El Salvador, and the first all-race elections in South Africa. 

Harvey also worked in Brisbane, Australia serving as a guest co-anchor. She started her journalism career working at WNEM-TV in Saginaw, Michigan serving as a general assignment reporter prior to serving as an anchor and producer. In January 1981, she joined CNN in Atlanta, Georgia where she helped launch CNN Headline News. During her tenure at CNN, she served as a news anchor till her departure in September 1985. Prior to joining KCAL9, she worked at WGN-TV in Chicago, Illinois where she served as an anchor and reporter. During her tenure at WGN, she presented a series of investigative reports.

Harvey is also very active when it comes to helping out in her community. She is also a child, a victim of domestic violence, and an education advocate. In addition to that, she is also the co-chairwoman and co-founder of the Good News Foundation. In addition to that, she is also a volunteer at Susan G. Komen for the Cure Los Angeles County Affiliate as a Circle of Promise Ambassador since April 2016.

She won the Genii Award for excellence in TV broadcasting in 2008 from Southern California’s chapter of American Women in Radio and Television. 

Some of the other awards include Golden Mikes, a national Emmy, the LA Press Club, the Edward R. Murrow award, the Society of Professional Journalists, and the Hollywood Women’s Press Club. She also received a National Association of Black Journalists Associated Press “Best News Anchor” award.
