Poteet’s very first significant weather coverage was the April 3, 1974 “Super Outbreak” of tornadoes. Also, he has covered the Twisters that hit his region. His career started when he was still a teen where he was hired as a radio DJ in Fort Wayne, Indiana. However, in the mid-1980s, he shifted to TV weather in Indianapolis and spent over 3 decades there.
Besides being a meteorologist, Poteet is also an entrepreneur who has worked directly with media publishers and tourist agencies to produce and develop content incorporating events of an area into a video weather update. With his “Paul Poteet Dot Com”, he is responsible for researching past weather events and reporting those findings to insurance attorneys and companies.
When coming to his education, Poteet is a proud alumnus of Mississippi State University. He spent 3 years at the university (from 1998 to 2001). He graduated with a degree in Broadcast Meteorology from the university.
During Poteet’s leisure time, he likes exploring the outdoors with his wife and grandchildren, biking, hiking, running, new adventures, attending festivals, or exploring new cuisines and new restaurants in the area. In the realm of running, he and his wife have finished several marathons such as events in Indianapolis and New York City.
