Raj Mathai is an American 12-time Emmy Award-winning Anchor and Reporter working for KNTV – NBC Bay Area in San Jose, California as a weekday evening news anchor. Prior to joining the station in the year 1998, he worked for KYMA-DT and KSEE-TV.

Mathai serves at KNTV – NBC Bay Area as a weekday evening news anchor, appearing on the 5:30, 6, 7, and 11 PM newscasts. He also serves as a host of the program “The Interview”. On that program, he has got to interview notable newsmakers such as Gavin Newsom (Governor), Jed York (owner of the 49ers), Kamala Harris (Vice President), and Barry Bonds (baseball legend).
Mathai is also the main news person for NBC Bay Area and he has covered important events like the 2019 Gilroy mass shooting, Donald Trump’s inauguration in the year 2017, and the 2020 Super Bowl in Miami. He started at KNTV as the Sports Director and later became the main news anchor in the year 2011.
He has gone to many Olympic games in different places like Vancouver, London, Turin, Salt Lake City, Athens, and Tokyo to report from there. Mathai is one of the few people who got to carry the Olympic Torch 3 times (in the years 2008, 2002, and 1996, ). He was also part of the crew that broadcast the Giants’ games (from 2008 to 2012) during the NBC Bay Area shows.
