Years later, he headed west to attend Southern Utah University, where he became the “Movie Guy” by writing film reviews for the university’s newspaper. Cum Laude became Wacky Weather Guy on KUWB30, Utah’s WB, after graduating with a BS Communications with a combined degree in Journalism and Broadcasting. Rich became Movie Preview Guy when KUWB30 combined with CW30, but only for a short time; CW30 shortly amalgamated with KUTV, and Rich was promoted to Promotions Guy. Rich began writing film reviews for the CW website while still working on movie previews.
He returned to be the Movie Guy for Salt Lake Magazine and The Standard-Examiner after a brief career in corporate video and became a member of the Utah Film Critics Association. Now he’s That Guy, film criticizing for KSTU and Entertainment Reporting for FOX13’s morning show, Good Day Utah, six days a week.
In the meantime, he keeps himself busy as co-host and co-producer of TALK 365, which airs weekdays on KJZZ. He’s also a member of the Critics Choice Association and produces and presents “Critical Mass,” a movie review show in the vein of “At The Movies,” which will soon be accessible on FOX13.
He likes comic books, watches Star Trek, and plays drums in a number of local bands, the most notable of which is JACKWAGON. Rich isn’t accessible for pick-up basketball games; he only appears to be tall on TV.
