In the late 1990s, he worked as an anchor for a morning show in Boise for six years. He was thrilled at the chance to return to the Treasure Valley when the opportunity to anchor Fox 9 Now arose.
“”I loved the active lifestyle and how committed the people are in Idaho,” he adds. “I was always comparing Madison to Boise, and it just never measured up.” The weather, the Broncos (the Oklahoma game is the best in NFL history), and, of course, the opportunity to float the Boise River are all things I enjoy.”
Roland is a journalism graduate of the University of Oregon. His first television job after graduating from high school taught him to be a jack of all trades. At a small bureau in Roseburg, Oregon, he took video, reported, produced, and even anchored. “I couldn’t anchor anyplace else since I was too young. I had the appearance of a 15-year-old.” It was 1990 at the time.
He’s still filming, anchoring, and reporting after 21 years. “I want to be out in the community, asking challenging questions and calling people in positions of power to account. That is why I began my career as a journalist in the first place.”
