Guthrie serves at NBC News as the main co-host of Today an NBC News morning show a role she took in July 2012. Furthermore, she also served as the co-anchor of The Daily Rundown at MSNBC from 2010 to 2011. Guthrie began as a legal analyst and correspondent, regularly reporting on trials throughout the country, at NBC News.

From 2008 to 2011, she served as a White House correspondent. Additionally, she also served as the co-anchor of  The Daily Rundown program from 2010 to 2011 that aired on MSNBC. Later on, she was announced as the co-host of Today’s third hour alongside Al Roker and  Natalie Morales. While she worked as the co-anchor of Today, she substituted as the main co-host, news anchor, and chief legal analyst across all NBC platforms. In 2012, she gave up her role as the co-host and chief legal analyst, and later she was replaced by  Ann Curry as co-anchor of Today.

Her career in journalism began in Columbia, Missouri where she worked at ABC affiliate KMIZ for two years. Later on, she relocated to Tucson and in 1995, she was able to land a job with NBC affiliate KVOA. From there she also worked in Washington, D.C. at WRC-TV where she covered stories such as; the 2001 anthrax attacks, and the September 11, 2001, attack on The Pentagon.

Having scored first place on the Arizona Bar Exam, she earned her self membership in the bars of the District of Columbia and Arizona. Furthermore, she was a member of the Order of the Coif and for her work with victims of domestic violence, she received the International Academy of Trial Lawyers Student Advocacy Award.

She served as a litigation associate, specializing in white-collar criminal defense when she worked for the law firm Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld. Prior to covering high-profile legal proceedings such as the Martha Stewart case, the Michael Jackson trial, the abduction and murder trial of Carlie Brucia, and the Senate Judiciary Committee confirmation hearings of U.S. Supreme Court nominee Samuel Alito when she served as a national trial correspondent for CourtTV.
