Ostro serves at The Weather Channel as the Senior Director of Weather Communications and senior Meteorologist. Since 1989, Stu has been with The Weather Channel and has several responsibilities as Senior Director of Weather Affairs and Senior Meteorologist, including being the lead weather brief in editorial meetings and the lead source of tropical news behind-the-scenes prediction guidance; he is also the only initial member of the three meteorologists committee assessing winter storms In recent years, his additional emphasis has been on finding similarities between global climate change and smaller-scale trends of weather.
As a child, Stu’s weather fascination and ambition to become a meteorologist began with a phobia of thunder and lightning. Stu started providing forecasts to the public more than 40 years ago while attending college, through radio stations served by the Campus Weather Service of the university.
Upon graduation from college, his technical career in meteorology started at Accu-Weather as a forecaster, then as a senior forecaster. His responsibilities included delivering radio station weather forecasts, as well as providing forecasts to television, utility, and ski industry customers.
When coming to his education, he is a graduate of Penn State University, where he obtained a Bachelor of Science (B.S.). Stu was part of the team nominated for a Television and Documentary Emmy® award for the coverage of Hurricane Harvey by the network in 2018.
For his Twitter weather posts, he has been named on several best-of lists, and has made sporadic appearances on camera over the years, offered several talks to the public, emergency services, and other scientists, and has briefed military leadership.
