Carl Parker Career

Parker serves at The Weather Channel as an On-Camera Meteorologist. As an On-Camera Meteorologist (OCM) in 1999, Parker joined The Weather Channel and claims it’s been really satisfying. For his first 12 years with the network, Parker was an OCM and then joined the Specialist Team in 2011, where he can be seen doing in-studio research for significant weather incidents. Parker has already been focused on extreme weather and climate change for many years and is now managing the network’s climate coverage after recently finishing graduate work in that field. This is a challenge that is now affecting the way the weather works, according to Parker, and he needs people to understand how, and also to realize that there’s a safer way forward.

Parker was in Houston, Tex with KPRC-TV from 1995 to 1999, gaining both personal and technical experience with tropical storms and hurricanes. For the KPRC, he covered Hurricane Georges and Opal from the ground and later would try powerful Hurricane Bret on his own. Prior to Houston, Parker worked in Harrisburg, PA for WHTM-TV and WHP-TV, where he covered the 1993 Superstorm, a freak of nature that clobbered the Eastern seaboard. He started his career at WTVA-TV in Tupelo, MS in 1991, while in college.

For as long as he can recall, Parker has been a lover of the sky. He was intrigued by storms even as a child as young as five years old; he would stare out the window for long stretches of time, completely engrossed in the show. As a television meteorologist for nearly three decades, Parker will turn that childhood interest into a career. And of course, Park is still in awe of the drama and dynamism of a stormy world.

When coming to his education, he holds a B.S. Of Geosciences from the State University of Mississippi. He also has a Climate Adaptation Graduate Degree from NC State University and possesses the Stamp of Approval of the American Meteorological Society. Every week, Parker plays basketball, but his main passion is music. He has been a musician since the mid-80s, playing electric guitar and bass. He’s still a big fan of live music, and he’s seen Rush 32 times, from jazz to go-go to rock and more.
