He is also a proud June 1993 graduate of Mississippi State University’s Broadcast Meteorology program in Starkville, Mississippi, where he obtained a Masters’s degree in Geoscience. In regard to his profession, Howell serves at WBIR 10 News as a chef meteorologist, a role he has held since the year 1996. He started as a staff meteorologist at WBIR-TV and he held that role for 3 years (from the year 1993 to the year 1996).

Howell has been fascinated by the weather since his elementary school days. While in college (Mississippi State University), he worked at WTVA-TV, an NBC and ABC affiliate station in Tupelo, Mississippi. There he served as a weather anchor and was mostly seen on the anchor’s desk giving weathercasts on Saturdays and Sundays. Throughout his career, he has reported on many severe weather events such as tornadoes, wildfires, snow storms, hurricanes, blizzards, and floods… just to name a few!

Outside journalism, Howell has also worked as a computer salesman (it was 3 years after graduating from the University of Georgia). He says that it did not take long before he decided to pursue what he has always been passionate about, and that it meteorology. Howell is affiliated with the NWA (National Weather Association).
