Yvonne has spent more than a decade reporting and anchoring around the world. The Texas Associated Press has honored her many times for her anchoring during her tenure with KVUE. The Laredo native began her career as a reporter for Telemundo when she was 18 years old. Her panic Magazine honored her as an excellent role model for Latinas during her senior year.

Further, she got her first anchoring job at KACB in San Angelo, Texas, after graduating from UT. She moved to WATE in Knoxville, Tennessee, after less than two years, to help launch the station’s weekend morning newscast. After that, Yvonne’s career in journalism took her to the shores of sunny South Florida.

She began her career as a breaking news reporter and anchor at WPLG in Miami in 2005. From Fidel Castro to Hurricane Katrina, she covered it all. After Miami, she moved to Connecticut to anchor their weekday morning newscast, where she spent her days covering huge blizzards instead of tropical storms.

Also, she was named one of Hartford’s Top 40 Under 40, which honors Connecticut residents who serve as strong role models in their communities. Traveling to rural Mexico, where she learned infected vegetables were the source of a Hepatitis A outbreak in East Tennessee, is one of her career highlights.

She also commented on Eric Rudolph, the Olympic Park bomber, in North Carolina being apprehended. Yvonne loves getting involved in the community outside of work. She has worked with organizations such as the American Parkinson’s Disease Association, Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, and their Race for the Cure, the American Red Cross, the Lupus Foundation, the Salvation Army, and Meals on Wheels.

Since she recalls how impressionable she was as a young girl, Yvonne loves mentoring young girls with GenAustin. She believes it is important for young girls to understand that they are in control of their own destinies, which includes not only their professional paths but also their overall happiness.
