Dockery developed a passion for the weather while in grade five. He grew up fearing tornadoes and thunderstorms, which boosted his interest to learn more details about them and how they form. Dockery decided to assist in his science fair project where he created a tornado in a jar and began to read more about the weather. It helped him to understand and forecast the weather.
He grew up watching WAVE 3 News in Louisville, Kentucky because of Kevin Harned, he kept him calm during the storms. Loved how he use to tell when to expect, what to expect, and talked about them through the entire situation. He had a chance to shadow Kevin Harned while in middle and high school. Dockery realized it was his passion during those mentoring sessions. He is a proud 2011 graduate of Spencer County High School in Taylorsville, Kentucky.
Upon his high school graduation, he headed to Bowling Green to attend Western Kentucky University and graduated in 2016. There he earned a Bachelor’s degree in meteorologist. He served at the Western Kentucky University Storm Team on a research project. On March 2, 2012, they presented it at the AMS conference. He was lucky to start his on-air job at WNKY on their weather team where he worked for two years while still pursuing his degree.
In the course of his time at WKU, he spent a summer interning with his office and got an opportunity to meet with John Gordon of the National Weather Service in Louisville. Later on, he moved to Hazard, Kentucky from Bowling Green to serve at WYMT as their evening meteorologist. He worked his way up through the rank at WYMT and after a year he was elevated to chief meteorologist to serve as the leader for the WYMT Weather Team until April 2019.
Dockery is thrilled to be serving at WMBF News with the First Alert Weather Team, impatient to learn from Robert, Sean, and Jamie. He is much delighted to be out in the community meeting with you. During his free time, he likes listening to music, going to concerts, playing guitar as well as being outdoors, and watching sports, an avid Pittsburgh fan.
